Richarlison scored a stoppage-time winner as Tottenham beat Chelsea 2-1 in an entertaining pre-season friendly in Sydney. In front of a crowd of more than 80,000 at Accor Stadium, Spurs claimed victory at the end of a competitive contest that took on the intensity of a Premier League meeting despite being played thousands of miles from London.
Sandro Tonali opened the scoring for Tottenham with the Italian midfielder's edge-of-the-area shot taking a huge deflection off Levi Colwill and leaving Teddy Sharman-Lowe with no chance whatsoever. However, Estevao Willian levelled the match moments later after being found by a deflected Jamie Gittens delivery. Spurs created the better openings before the interval, with Mathys Tel denied by an impressive save from Sharman-Lowe.
The game appeared to turn just four minutes into the second half when Tottenham defender Kevin Danso was shown a straight red card for bringing down Joao Pedro as the Chelsea forward raced through on goal. Little time was wasted as the referee produced a red card, with Chelsea handed a freekick from 30 yards - as Danso trudged down the tunnel towards the Tottenham dressing room.
Danso's red card, four minutes after coming on at the break, looked to put the game into Chelsea's control but Xabi Alonso's team failed to make the advantage count. They had just four shots on target, the same amount as Spurs, despite the red card for their opponents. Chelsea looked the more likely side to find a winner after the dismissal, but goalkeeper Antonin Kinsky kept Tottenham level with two outstanding saves. He first turned Estevao's close-range effort onto the crossbar before producing another sharp stop to deny Joao Pedro from inside the six-yard box.
Spurs were indebted to a couple of terrific saves from Antonin Kinsky but the 10-men also hit the crossbar when academy product Rio Kyerematen turned well on the halfway line and sprinted up the pitch before hitting an effort from 25 yards out that bounced off the top of the bar.
