Newcastle immediately rejected that offer, having consistently valued the 28-year-old at in excess of £80million, with discussions between the two clubs continuing. The Gunners have been strongly linked with a move to sign the Brazil international in recent weeks, with GIVEMESPORT sources understanding that talks had reached an advanced stage on a deal worth around £80m.
The 28-year-old told Newcastle bosses last month he wants to join Arsenal this summer. Newcastle want their captain to stay and he has two years left on his contract plus a club-held option for a third.
However, Guimaraes is now expected to move on, with Arsenal edging closer to a deal after the midfielder gave the green light to make the switch.
