Another report is claiming Arsenal and Newcastle have agreed a deal for the transfer of Bruno Guimaraes, with the Magpies now making ‘progress’ in attempts to sign a Manchester United target as his successor.

The Brazil midfielder has been a priority target for Arsenal as the club look to further strengthen after winning the Premier League last season.

But reports from abroad, including ESPN Brazil journalist Bruno Andrade, insist an £80million fee has been agreed by the clubs, despite reports elsewhere claiming an opening bid was rejected. The clubs are understood to be in formal discussions regarding the midfielder, with previous discussions being done through intermediaries. There is a gap in the two clubs’ valuation of the 28-year-old, with Arsenal’s offer believed to be around £70million, while Newcastle want £80m for their skipper.

Guimaraes has travelled to Spain for Newcastle's pre-season training camp in La Manga, as planned, following his post-World Cup break. Since then he has made 195 appearances for the club, scoring 31 goals.
