The agreement ends summer speculation over a potential move to Arsenal after the Brazil international entered the final 12 months of his previous deal following a trophyless 2025-26 campaign.

"Eight years at the Bernabéu are short," Vinícius posted on social media, referring to the time since his arrival in 2018. "Six more years, and forever!"

Real Madrid met with Vinícius Júnior's agents on Wednesday to resume contract talks which had been stalled, seemingly irreversibly, for over a year. ESPN reported that Arsenal were interested in Vinícius and had been assessing if a signing of such magnitude was financially viable.

By January, he was being whistled by fans at the Bernabéu, shouldering the blame for the team's underperformance. "I'd better go!" he shouted, leaving the field. Earlier, "There's a lot of talk about my contract... We'll sort things out at the right time," he had said two months earlier.

With his long-term future settled until 2032, Vinícius will focus on helping Real Madrid compete for major honours under José Mourinho. Real Madrid have also strengthened their squad with the arrivals of winger Yan Diomande, midfielder Bernardo Silva, centre-back Ibrahima Konaté, left-back Marc Cucurella and wing-back Denzel Dumfries.
