Tomori set for Milan exit as Liverpool, Newcastle and Coventry circle

Fikayo Tomori is expected to leave AC Milan this summer with his contract winding down, as Liverpool, Newcastle United, and newly-promoted Coventry City all register interest in the 28-year-old England international.

Indeed, according to Quotidiano Sportivo, via Sport Witness, Tomori is the ‘main suspect’ to back his bags at Milan after being an unused substitute in their 3-0 pre-season loss to Chelsea on Saturday. The Italian publication adds that Coventry City, Newcastle United, and Liverpool have ‘knocked’ when it comes to recruiting the experienced defender.

The 28-year-old has been with the Serie A giants since 2021 when he joined from Chelsea, initially on loan before making the move permanent for £25 million. The six-cap England international won Serie A in his first season at the club, but success has been harder to come by since. Tomori was left on the bench as Milan were beaten 3-0 by his former side Chelsea in a pre-season friendly on Saturday.

Liverpool are looking to revamp their defence under new boss Andoni Iraola and the same can be said about Newcastle under Matthias Jaissle. Liverpool parted ways with Ibrahima Konate earlier this summer, and players like Joe Gomez have struggled with persistent injury problems.

Newcastle United could add experience at the back in Fikayo Tomori, following their exodus this summer. That's according to fresh reports, as the Toon look to rebuild their side after losing the likes of Kieran Trippier, Anthony Gordon, Sandro Tonali and most recently, Bruno Guimaraes, in the transfer market. At Newcastle, the likes of Malick Thiaw, Sven Botman, and Dan Burn will hope to start as centre-backs, so Tomori has a great deal of thinking to do.

Newly-promoted Coventry City have also been credited with an interest and have the chance of pulling off a huge coup due to manager Frank Lampard’s connection with Tomori. The former England midfielder managed Tomori during his spell at Derby County and then guided his breakthrough into the first team at Chelsea.
