Reports in Italy claim that Inter are closing in on an agreement with Premier League club Tottenham Hotspur for the permanent transfer of England international Djed Spence. The player’s willingness to leave could become important in the final stages of discussions. talkSPORT has also reported that Spence is open to a Tottenham exit and has attracted attention from both Inter and AC Milan.

According to Fabrizio Romano, Inter are prepared to submit an official offer if Tottenham soften the conditions they set following the World Cup. Inter believe price can be under €40m now and talks will follow — back on track as exclusively revealed. Direct negotiations are expected to continue, while Romano adds that Spence himself is keen on making the move to San Siro.

There had been reports earlier this summer that Inter were keen on the England defender, but there were also suggestions that Tottenham would seek a fee in the region of €40m-€50m for the 26-year-old. Tuesday’s reports from La Gazzetta dello Sport claim that the interest from Cristian Chivu’s side has never faded, and that they have been waiting for Tottenham to lower their asking price. However, But now, reports across Italy claim that Spence has returned to the top of Inter’s wishlist and that there has been progress in talks with Tottenham.

Inter's interest comes with the club facing a potential crisis at wing-back going into their title defence. Although Chivu prefers to deploy a 3-5-2 formation, he is currently without a recognised senior right-sided defender.

Spurs are open to offers for the versatile full-back as they look to fund their summer spending spree.
