Ansu Fati's long association with Barcelona appears to be drawing to a close, with AS Monaco working to secure a permanent transfer and actively seeking to lower the Spanish club's valuation of the player, according to Football España.

Fati has been on loan at Monaco, and the French club's interest in retaining him is now understood to have moved into a formal negotiating phase. Football España reports that Monaco intend to press Barcelona on price before any permanent deal can be concluded.

The forward joined Barcelona from Sevilla as a child and has spent the better part of fourteen years in their system — a tenure that, in modern football, is an increasingly rare thing. Yet for all the affection that tends to accompany such longevity, the practical reality of his recent career has been one of distance from the club. Two of the past three seasons have been spent away on loan, and this latest departure now looks likely to become permanent rather than temporary.

Barcelona's financial constraints have been well documented over recent years, and the sale of a player whose first-team involvement at the Camp Nou has diminished considerably might be expected to suit both parties in principle. The sticking point, as Football España frames it, is valuation. Monaco are willing to buy, but not at whatever figure Barcelona currently have in mind. The negotiation that follows will determine whether an agreement is reachable or whether Fati returns to Catalonia to face an uncertain future once more.

For Monaco, a permanent signing would represent a statement of intent around a player who still carries considerable reputation, even if the past few seasons have not always matched the expectations that once surrounded him. Whether Barcelona's board ultimately accept a negotiated-down figure will likely depend on what other options exist and how urgently the club needs to move players off their books before the summer window closes.
