Wales Under-21 goalkeeper Kit Margetson joins Manchester United after the Premier League giants agreed a compensation package with Swansea City. Margetson's Swansea contract expired this summer and the 20-year-old announced earlier this month that he would be leaving the Championship club.
Old Trafford agreed a compensation package for the son of the former England goalkeeping coach Martyn Margetson. Margetson did not make a first-team appearance at Swansea, though he did play regular senior football during a loan spell with Connah's Quay Nomads last season. However, Swansea will receive a compensation fee for the young goalkeeper, having developed him since under-15 level under the eye of his father Martyn, who was until recently the Championship's side head of goalkeeping. He spent last season on loan at Connah's Quay Nomads where he made 34 appearances and kept 10 clean sheets.
Margetson made his debut for Wales under-21s against Belarus in March.
The keeper’s departure from SA1 comes after his dad Martyn exited from his role as Swansea’s head of goalkeeping at the end the 2025/26 campaign. His dad spent eight years as England‘s main goalkeeping coach between 2016 and 2024. Now, he features in Craig Bellamy‘s Wales backroom.
Michael Carrick has greenlighted their departures to create space in the first-team squad. United are understood to value the the 22-year-old at £10million and have received plenty of interest in his services.
