Filip Jorgensen has flown back from Chelsea’s pre-season tour of Australia and Asia as he closes in on a move to Strasbourg. Jorgensen was left out of Xabi Alonso’s squad for Chelsea’s pre-season friendly against Western Sydney Wanderers, and Standard Sport understands the 24-year-old has gone back to the UK as he edges towards a move to Chelsea’s BlueCo sister club.
Strasbourg have been in the market for a new goalkeeper after loanee Mike Penders returned to Chelsea this summer, while Jorgensen has made it clear that he wants regular minutes this season. Strasbourg are in talks for Jorgensen, but no deal has been done yet.
Earlier this summer, football.london reported that Jorgensen has informed Chelsea that he wishes to leave the club after a face-to-face meeting to discuss his future. The 24-year-old is keen for more regular game time, having spent the last two seasons as back-up to Robert Sanchez at Stamford Bridge.
Jorgensen has also kept 11 clean sheets and conceded just 39 goals in his 36 total appearances for the club.
The goalkeeping situation at Chelsea remains open, with Alonso admitting that he does not have a first-choice ‘keeper and that there is competition for the No1 spot heading into the new season. The Blues are set to welcome Mike Penders back into the squad after the 20-year-old impressed on loan with Strasbourg last season.
Brighton are understood to be holding out for closer to £30million for the former England under-21 international.
