Crystal Palace have ‘abruptly ended talks’ for Augsburg defender Chrislain Matsima after the German side proved very difficult in negotiations. Crystal Palace have been left annoyed by Augsburg’s demands and do not intend to return to negotiations.
Augsburg centre-back Chrislain Matsima was a leading target and two formal bids were rejected but for now, negotiations are off as the German club shifted the goalposts. According to Sport Witness, Sport Witness covered a report explaining that a report explaining that a €20m bid had been immediately rejected by Augsburg. As a result, Crystal Palace have ‘abruptly ended talks’. They already have a priority target lined up as a replacement for Matsima. He had been targeted as a replacement for Maxence Lacroix, who appears destined to join Chelsea in a £50m deal this summer.
Lacroix is expected to formally complete a £52million move to Chelsea in the coming days, and Matsima is one of a number of potential targets to replace the French international.
Toulouse's Charlie Cresswell, Lens' Ismaelo Ganiou, who played against Palace on Tuesday, and Lecce's Tiago Gabriel have also been assessed and it's possible two new centre-backs arrive following the departure of veteran Nathaniel Clyne, confirmed earlier today.
Palace have held talks with his representatives in the last couple of weeks to discuss a potential move.
